Finlandia - listopad 2014

Organizator regat w Finlandii prosi wszystkich planujących przyjazd o rejestrację. Jest ona półoficjalna i służyć będzie organizatorom w zorientowaniu się, na ilu gości mają się przygotować: noclegi, część nieoficjalna itp itd. Kto planuje - niech się rejestruje (częstochowski rytm mi się trafił!).

"Gdzie", tego dokładnie nie wie nikt... gdzieś na Północy. Znana jest tylko data 14-16.11.

Myślę, że lepiej oddadzą to słowa Johniego Winquista:

- This regatta is rather special. In the good old days the regatta was always held on lake Vikajärvi. (Thats why the regatta is still commonly referred to as the "Vikarjävi Regatta). In the good old days the regatta was sailed not on a set date, but on week 44-+3 weeks. When the ice came, everyone packed their stuff and started to drive. Location was locked. Date was open.

- In todays world such an open date no longer works. People need to plan ahead more. So now we sail always on week 46. Always. This means we set the date, but leave the location open.

- During the last few years we have been at Vaala on Lake Oulunjävi if possile. The accomodaton there is ok and the driving distance is humane. But it is not uncommon that we need to go further north to find ice. Last year for instance we had to go all the way up to Muonio in Lappland.

The good thing with this is that it can be something of a cultural and exotic trip for many. You can look at it like an adventure. "Exlplore the last untouched territories on our planet. Set foot on grounds where no white man has ever walked. Get cursed by a Lapp shaman."

The bad thing is that you spend more time in the car as the driving distance is a lot longer. You can look it up on google maps....

- Anyway. The point is that you never know where you end up.

- So it all is a matter of looking at the weather forecasts and try to make a educated guess. And here your guess is as good as mine. I live in Helsinki and it is a totally different world compared to the middle and north of Finland. The weather outside my window says as little abut the weather where we are going as looking out your window.

- We have a rather nice tool on our web page. It is a ice and weather database. But as with every other database the info is just as good or just as bad as the iput into the database is. Nevertheless this is where we put in the ice rapports when we get them. You also find links to weather rapports, maps, basic data about the location etc etc. You will notice not much data is put in yet for this year. Yes you guessed right. Not many rapports have come in yet and probably there is not much ice anywhere yet. So you need to be patient...

- In my mind a DN sailor should not speculate to much. Better to just wait and see where the regatta organizers end up sending us. All you need to do is to set your mind at going. And then you go when the call comes. Don´t even start second guessing. If you let your mind to start speculating then you end up never sailing and never going anywhere. I recommend listening to Vaiko Vooremas words of visdom. He askts the question: "is there a 1% chance we get to sail" if the answer is YES. Then he goes. He never asks "Where are we going".

Czy ktoś się wybiera na fińskie otwarcie sezonu 14-16.11?

Wstępnie planuję wyjazd, tak żeby pojeździć 4 dni: 13-16.11 (czwartek-niedziela).

Może zbierze się kilku chętnych, aby "całą wsią" się wybrać?
